Hyperphagia and Tape Worms
Hyperphagia is the final stage for bears before fall transition and hibernation. During this time, they consume an astonishing amount of food, seeking to gain up to 30% of their body weight. This weight gain is an essential part of preparing for hibernation, and is especially important for the younger bears. Without enough body weight, they risk the chance of staying up later than the other bears, searching the estuary for more food. However, there are some pesky parasites lurking in the salmon that might make this a problem...
